Like eating our veggies and going to the gym, sometimes we contrary human beings have been known to resist what is good for us. And that includes taking holidays. I’m one of the worst offenders – and I have a litany of
really justifiable reasons excuses for not taking time off. Perhaps you have some of these too? Let’s investigate some of the top excuses for not taking your hard earned holiday and see if we can’t resolve them!
“I’m too busy at work!” – That old chestnut. I like to think I’m reasonably important around here but I’m kidding myself if I think the wheels will fall off if I’m not around for a couple of weeks. Some people feel guilty about the extra work they’re giving to their colleagues – but taken from another angle, you’re giving them an opportunity to learn something new 😉 The bottom line is, if you don’t take a holiday now, eventually you may have to take an ‘enforced’ holiday down the line (yes, I’m saying it’s probably not good for your mental health if you are constantly working that hard!!). But don’t just take my word for it – check out this 2013 report on the health benefits of taking a holiday!
“I can’t afford it” – This is another of my well used laments. And yes, like most everyone I have a mortgage, car payments, and all manner of wonderful bills arriving in my inbox almost daily. So maybe you can’t really justify spending money on a holiday in the same month you have rates, insurance and car registration due. But what I’ve started doing is ‘deferring gratification’. For me this comes in the form of cutting down on some of the weekend wines and eating out. I’m not suggesting you cut out all of the things that add some fun and enjoyment to your weekly routines – just a few – enough to let you start planning your holiday. Sydney here I come!
“I’ve already used up all my Credits!” – #worldmarkspproblems right? If this is you, I’m going to cut you a little slack, if you’ve used up all your Credits, chances are you’ve had a reasonably recent holiday, and you’re probably not a holiday excuse maker! Not dissimilar to chocolate however, the more holidays we take, the more we need! Never fear, there are plenty of WorldMarkSP options to keep you going. Check out our weekly Bonus Time availability chart on Pinterest (published on a Tuesday) for those last minute getaways. And be sure to keep an eye on the Grab It website. I like to think of Grab It deals, as ‘holiday offers you can’t refuse’.
Do any of the above sound like you? Are you a ‘holiday excuse maker’ like me? The first step is admitting it – you’ll be a holiday addict in no time!
