Now read John’s son’s account of their family Fiji holiday!

Friday 12 August 2011 – Today we flew to Fiji – finally arriving at our Resort at 3:30pm. Did the usual swim and spa with a milkshake from the swim-up bar before dinner. After dinner we watched the fire dancers.

Saturday 13 August 2011 – Caught the Bula Bus around Denarau Island and visited other Resorts and the Marina.  As usual did the swim and spa at dusk and watched the firelighter light the torches and I got to light one.

Sunday 14 August – Today we did Zip Fiji – it was awesome.  After a 3 hour tour bus drive we arrived at our destination – the rainforest.  Here we zipped through the forest on  flying foxes 30m above the ground and 1 km of track – we did it twice.  Awesome!!

Monday 15 August – Did a tour of South Sea Island – spent the morning on the island, went on a yellow submarine exploring the coral and I saw some sort of octopus. Later we had a big BBQ lunch and watched a traditional Fijian dance and I played beach volley ball. Took a catamaran ride back stopping at another four islands before getting back to the marina. Then as usual swim and spa.

Tuesday 16 August – Took the local bus into Nadi town – went through the markets and did a bit of shopping, then caught the bus back to the resort.  As usual followed by more swimming and a milkshake.  Tonight we went out to dinner at the Golf club instead of mum cooking.

Wednesday 17 August – Today is the day we went to Sigatoka River Safari – this involved another long bus trip and then going by jet boat up into the village – we visited Tanga Village.  Here we saw village life and their culture.  They gave us a welcoming ceremony where we participated in a Kava ceremony.  They then put makeup on us and gave a flower lai to wear.  We were then invited to lunch and tasted their traditional foods – I stuck to the rice and chicken.  After this we danced and sang and soon we had to leave.

On our return we jet boated back and did four 360 degree spins and it rained.  The rain felt like needles piercing my face – Ouch!

Thursday 18 August – Second last day – stayed at the resort to unwind and relax – swam on the beach, pool and spa.  Too windy to take out the Hobbie cat on the water.  Watched the sun set and drank more milkshakes.

Friday 19 August – Our last day here – got some last minute fish feeding in and swimming. Got our flight back to Brisbane – we’re home.
