In the last school holidays my wife and I took our son and 2 of his mates to Port Macquarie. We stayed in the Wyndham apartments located in the Northpoint complex. These units have a fantastic location right in the middle of town. It is an easy walk to shops, restaurants and lots of activities, close to fantastic coffee at Casualties & The Corner.
In Port (as the locals call it) there are lots of things to do.
I took the boys out to Timbertown a re-creation of an old timber-gathering village. Here we saw lots of things but the most impressive was Craig the Bullocky show us his skills with one of the only working bullock teams left in Australia. This is a man with a real passion for his craft and also one you feel a great sympathy for as he sees the skills dying out.
We visited the The Maze located on one of the wineries in the hinterland. Quite a challenging maze. I would say this is well worth the drive.
We also took a trip to the giant inflatable water slide where the boys spent time “getting air”.
Finally we also had a ride on the Port Jet, a great attraction in which you ride in a jetboat through the surf. Spins, jumps, noose dives, it is a great ride and I reckon Andrew has the best job in the world and you can tell by the smile on his face he knows it. I would highly recommend this (but just be prepared to get wet).
The day’s activities were matched with great meals at night, from the great Mexican at Toro’s just next door, to the fine dinning at the Stunned Mullet or Fusion 7 or the surprise of the trip with Zebu Grill.
All in all, our trip to Port Macquarie was great, thank you Wyndham for the great rooms in a great location.
