Resort Reporter Fiji #28 – USA and Canada

5 years in the planning and it was everything we hoped for and more!!

Flying Hawaiian airlines with an overnight stop in Hawaii was the best decision we made on our trip to the USA and Canada.  Honolulu was so easy to go through customs, it all took about 30 minutes. The next day we flew direct to California which was a domestic flight.

California

Alcatraz has an amazing audio tour which is done by 4 ex guards and 4 ex inmates, make sure you book in advance.

Walk the Golden Gate Bridge and tour Fort Point which was where the cannons sat to defend the Bridge and San Francisco Bay.

Duartes Tavern in Pescadero between San Francisco and Santa Cruz has amazing Cream of Artichoke or Cream of Green Chile Soup & great berry pies.

Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco is a great spot for breakfast, even if just to see them make their Irish Coffees!! After breakfast take a ride on the cable car (across road).

The drive to Yosemite National Park is amazing in itself and then you arrive to awe inspiring mountains, towering trees and crystal clear water holes, you will definitely want to stay the night.  Lunch and a tour of the The Ahwahnee hotel is a must.

Canada

After the Alaskan Cruise & Rocky Mountaineer (both amazing)

Banff & Jasper Hot Springs are excellent on any day, especially when you have snow covered mountains in the background while you’re relaxing in a 38 degree pool!! Keep an eye out for Mountain Goats & Bears on your way out to both of these.

Banff: Take the Tunnel Mountain Rd drive and also visit Bow Falls. Two great coffee shops are Second Cup in Cascade Plaza Mall & Jump Start in Buffalo Street.

Whistler: Zipline & Peak to Peak are must do’s

Vancouver: Hop on Hop off bus or trolley are both excellent at approximately $45 for a two day pass.

Seattle

The space needle (book your tickets in advance to avoid long ques). Chihuly Garden and Glass, is extraordinary, unlike any garden we have ever seen.

                                                                   Hawaii

Pearl Harbor – make sure you book weeks in advance on line if you don’t want to go with a tour group.  Hanauma Bay on Oahu is great for snorkeling and the local bus is only $5 return.
