Hobart’s Finest.

This week I was reminded of the year and a half I lived in Tasmania in my younger years.  It had been my intention to spend a year travelling when I finished High School, however instead I ended up staying in Hobart.  We had accommodation on an old Sydney ferry docked at the wharf, and it was the perfect spot to make the most out of all that Hobart had to offer.  I thought I’d share with you some of the best attractions I found in Hobart (and google tells me that these attractions are still around too!).

1. Mures Seafood – It makes sense to start here as this was, quite literally, on my doorstep!  It kept the docks vibrant and bustling with locals and visitors alike.  I’m sure the seafood was delicious (how could it not be given the location?), however I was in it for the delicious ice-cream! Even though that was almost 20 years ago, I get the feeling that ice-cream is still being served!

2. Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens – This is a beautiful, calm place to spend time (especially when the entertainment budget was very limited, as was my case at the time!). As I review the website now, I realise that I didn’t explore half of what was on offer there!  I just remember the stunning tulips, and lots of picnics.  If restaurants are more your style, then you’re catered for as well!

3. Battery Point – I spent hours wandering around here, soaking up the historical old streets and houses.  In particular there was an old fashioned sweetie shop on one of the streets.  My internet wanderings can’t confirm for me if it’s still there…but if you happen to find it, let me know.  Battery Point is connected to Salamanca by Kelly’s Steps – so it’s a bit of a walk.  I recommend refreshments in one of the cafes or pubs in the area afterward.

If that’s got you thinking about a visit – have you checked out Grab It! lately?  There are some amazing deals going at the moment – including stays in Grand and Presidential apartments at Wyndham Seven Mile Beach.  Take a look and visit Tassie in style!  Here are a couple – but be quick they might have already been snapped up by the time you’re reading this.
